World-leading 14.85 for Sestak in Ljubljana

Marija Sestak, the Valencia World indoor championships bronze medallist, leaped a world-leading 14.85m in the Triple Jump at the Ljubljana leg of the Slovenia International Grand Prix on Sunday (1-June).

Sestak, who leaped beyond 15m indoors this year before taking her first internation medal in March, took only three jumps abd utilized a shorter 14 step approach instead of her usual 18. Her winning leap came in the second round; her third broke the sane at 14.37m.

Elsewhere, Slovenian national record holder Miran Vodovnik won the Shot Put with a 20.43m toss and Andrej Poljanec won the Pole Vault with a 4.40m clearance before topping out with three misses at a would-be national record of 5.62m.

Running against a hefty 2.9 m/s win, Jan Zumer upset Osaka finalist Matic Osovnikar in the 100m, 10.70 to 10.76. In the women's race, also run against a strong 2.5 m/s win, Alenka Bikar took top honours in 11.88, ahead of Maja Mihalinec (11.99). Finishing a distant fifth in 12.15 was 48-year-old Merlene Ottey whose next outing comes at the AF Golden League meeting in Oslo.
