New Zealand’s exceptional athlete Jonathan Wyatt won the 31st Hochfelln Mountain Run in Bergen on Sunday (26 Sep), while Italy’s Antonella Confortola repeated her win in the women’s division.

Jonathan Wyatt, 32, who won the World Mountain Running championship in Sauze d‘Oulx, Italy on 5 September – his fourth career victory in the World Championship – strode to victory in Bergen in a time of 41:25.1 minutes for the 8.9k distance. The altitude of the course was some 1074m, and the time was some 51 seconds slower than his own course record.

Second placed, by more than 1 ½ minutes was the Briton John Brown. Enjoyable from the local perspective was the third place of Germany’s Helmut Schiessl. The World silver medallist at the long distance in 2004 and three times German champion finished in 43:32.0.

The Women’s event saw a well known face on the highest rung on the podium, as the Italian Antonella Confortola won in 51:23.0 minutes in front of the former Hochfelln-Champion Izabela Zatorska (52:36.9) and the Swiss Daniela Gassmann (53:38.9).

Stefanie Buss from Neuss, was the best German runner, with 55.40.4.
