Xaver Frick passes away at the age of 96

The IAAF mourns the passing of Xaver Frick who took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and was the founder, in the same year, of the IAAF Member Federation for Liechtenstein which was then and still is, also in charge of Gymnastics in that country died on Thursday 11 June at the age of 96 years.

Xaver Frick (Born 22 Feb 1913), who remained President of the Liechtenstein federation for 35 years, was a participant during his active sports career in cross country skiing as well as athletics.

The only ever athlete in Liechtenstein to have participated in both the Summer and Winter Olympics, Frick participated in track and field at the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin and as a cross-country skier in the 1948 Winter Games in St. Moritz.

As a founding member of the National Sports Association and the first Liechtenstein National Olympic Committee (NOC), he helped lay the foundation for the sports structures as they exist today in Liechtenstein. He served in the NOC as Secretary beginning in 1935, then he served as President from 1963 to 1970.
