With 50 days to go until Weltklasse Zurich, organisers have confirmed the participation of 16 newly crowned European champions at the first of two IAAF Diamond League finals on 1 September.

Dafne Schippers will return to the stadium in which she won her first European sprint titles two years ago. In Zurich the Dutch sprint star will contest the 200m, the event at which she is the world champion. Swiss record-holder Mujinga Kambundji will be among her opponents.

The women’s 200m is one of many events in which European champions will take on the top Swiss athletes.

Turkey’s Yasmani Copello will face his predecessor as European 400m hurdles champion, Kariem Hussein. Ukraine’s surprise European 800m champion Nataliya Pryshchepa will line up against European indoor champion Selina Buchel. And European 400m hurdles champion Sara Slott Petersen will renew her rivalry with European bronze medallist Lea Sprunger.

Other European champions set to compete in Zurich include Angelica Cichocka in the 1500m, Gesa-Felicitas Krause in the steeplechase, Cindy Roleder in the 100m hurdles, Ivana Spanovic in the long jump, Ruth Beitia in the high jump, Ekaterini Stefanidi in the pole vault, Sandra Perkovic in the discus, Churandy Martina in the 100m, Martyn Rooney in the 400m, Ilias Fifa in the 5000m and Robert Sobera in the pole vault.

Of the 19 events taking place in Zurich, 16 of them will represent the final leg of the Diamond Race.
