With sub-11-second runners Michelle-Lee Ahye and three-time Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown in their squad, the Americas team looks set to defend their title.

Their bid for glory is supported by USA’s Tianna Bartoletta, who is doubling at the Continental Cup with the long jump, Samantha Henry-Robertson and Joanna Atkins.

Instead of taking the approach used by the Americas team and putting together a group of the best individual sprinters on the continent, Europe will be represented by Great Britain, who won the European title last month with a national record.

The African squad should be competitive as it includes experienced Nigerian duo Gloria Asumnu and Dominique Duncan, while Asia-Pacific will be represented by the Japanese national team, whose best time this year is 43.74.
