Heading the entries and the world list this season is Dawid Wegner of Poland with 81.48m. The Pole, however, has not come within 10 metres of the mark since May.

The door may thus be open for others, including China's Liu Zhekai, the Asian U18 champion with 77.25m, to challenge the top position.

The list of potential contenders also includes Liu's teammate Song Qingshu, who has thrown 76.36m this year, as well as three more boys with marks exceeding 75 metres: the French U18 champion Teura'itera'i Tupaia (75.45m), Johannes Schlebusch of South Africa (75.12m) and Jaime Ulises Arroyo of Mexico (75.06m).
