Entering the event with a best leap which is more than 20 centimetres further than his nearest opponent, Maikel Vidal of Cuba will be eager to flaunt his talent by stepping on top of the podium.

Vidal's personal best of 7.85m should give him a mental boost over his competition, but he will need to be at his best to hold off challenges from numerous other medal prospects.

Andreas Samuel Bucsa of Romania (7.63m) and Juan David Moreno of Colombia (7.59m) are also among the top contenders.

Three other boys - Luka Herden (Germany), Julian Bogner (South Africa) and 15-year-old Lester Lecsay (Cuba) - will hope to cause an upset after the trio all reached 7.50m in the build-up to the championships.
