5th IAAF / VTB BANK WORLD ATHLETICS FINAL, STUTTGART, GERMANY – 22-23 SEPTEMBER 2007

Date and Location of Award of Competition

The competition was awarded to Stuttgart (GER) by the IAAF Council at its meeting in August 2005 in Helsinki (FIN). It was decided that the event may continue to take place in Stuttgart for another two years, unless the IAAF exercises a contractual right to reattribute the event after one year if dissatisfied.

General Comments

Stuttgart has 600,000 inhabitants and is the capital of Baden-Württemberg district (Bundesland). It is located 510 km from Berlin, 150 from Frankfurt and 190 from Munich. The altitude is 260m above sea level.

The climate at the time of the Championships is rather mild with the average temperature about 18°C. and average humidity of 40 %, with an average rainfall of 2.2mm.

The Official Airport is Stuttgart-Echterdingen and the official central railway station is Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof.

The venue is Gottlieb Daimler Stadium where the 4th IAAF World Championships in Athletics took place (1993). The track has 8 lanes, the surface brand is Rekortan and was laid down in 1992. A resurfacing will take place. An IAAF Class 1 Certificate is needed for the WAF.

The seated area for spectators will contain 54,000 places with 45,000 available for the Final.

Prize Money (paid by IAAF):

1st US $ 30,000; 2nd US $ 20,000; 3rd US $ 12,000; 4th US $ 7,000; 5th US $ 5,000; 6th US $ 4,000; 7th US $ 3,000; 8th US $ 2,000

Athletes competing in 1500m, 5000m, 3000m, 3000m SC who finish from 9th to 12th place will receive an allowance of US $ 1000.

Any athlete who surpasses a World Record in the World Athletics Final will be awarded US $ 100,000.
