At 16, Lazaro Martinez has been a sensation this year, setting a world youth best of 17.24m, which opened doors to a three fine IAAF Diamond League performances.

With his best mark this year being almost a metre farther than his rivals, the world youth champion is expected to become the fifth Cuban to win the world junior title.

Germany’s Max Hess, Surinam’s Miguel Van Assen, China’s world youth silver medallist Fang Yaoqing and Armenia’s Levon Aghasyan should fight for the two other medal spots.
