The USA has won six of the past seven short relay titles and the past four straight and will yet again arrive looking tough to unseat.
Leading the formidable US squad will be Noah Lyles and Michael Norman, who fell just short of making the US Olympic team in the 200m after finishing fourth and fifth at the US Olympic Trials last week. Lyles clocked 20.09 and Norman 20.14.
Nigel Ellis – who, like Lyles, has run 10.16 in the 100m this season – leads 2006 champions Jamaica, the last team to beat the USA at these championships.
Other medal contenders include Chinese Taipei, who heads the world lists with 39.51, Australia (39.62), South Africa and Germany.
