American Trey Hardee now has total control on the Decathlon competition after seven events.

The 25-year-old continued the impressive streak of events going well and hasn’t failed to get a good result in any of the seven events so far. Hardee threw 48.08m in the Discus Throw, a season’s best which gives him 6334 points for the lead after the seventh event.

Hardee’s biggest competitor here, World leader Leonel Suárez had a minor setback in the Discus too with a 44.71m result, a little below his normal standards. The Cuban Olympic bronze medallist is in eighth place at the moment with 5998 points and is losing the fight for the gold, but will still challenge others above him on the rankings for the two other medals.

Ukrainian Oleksiy Kasyanov threw well reaching 46.70m, but he will be going downwards in the next two events as the Pole Vault and Javelin Throw are not his best events. Kasyanov now has 6275 points for second place. Russian Aleksandr Pogorelov didn’t reach 50 metres this time, but 48.46m result still gives him a good shot at a medal. The 29-year-old is in third place with 6163 points.

The other two Cubans are in places four and five. Yunior Díaz with a 43.52m discus mark has 6151 points in fourth, but he too will lose placings in the rest of the events. Yordani García in fifth place after a 44.40m result will be looking for a medal and has 6066 total points. Reigning champion Roman Sebrle is also still there in medal contention with 6036 points for sixth place. The Czech World record holder is excellent in the next two events and will be looking to be in a medal position before the last event, the 1500m.

Germans still have their hopes up for a medal with Pascal Behrenbruch in seventh place with 6021 total points having thrown a good 48.08m. The German is also going upwards as he is a decent pole vaulter and a very good javelin thrower. Andrei Krauchanka of Belarus is in 10th place with 5958 points and being a good pole vaulter he will be hoping to gain points to get close to the medals before last two events.
