time World 200m champion Allyson Felix recently resumed training, but still managed to make the time to lend a hand at several community service events, and even to select her NBA fantasy team.

“It’s been a busy month for me besides celebrating my 24th birthday on 18 Nov. and Thanksgiving.

“I just spent some time with my family and friends for my birthday.  We always have a small get together and have a nice dinner.  My friends also always take me out to celebrate which I always look forward to.

“Training has been going well and I'm excited for what this upcoming year will bring.  It is always physically and mentally tough at the start of training because the workouts are very demanding but we are making progress.

“I’ve also been involved in several community service events. I had the opportunity to take part in the LA portion of Children's Miracle Network Torch Relay.  I love being an ambassador for this amazing organization and I had fun starting the 5k on the beach in Torrance to raise money for these amazing hospitals who have helped so many children.

“I also spoke at the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America's annual Air Power Games. It was a great event that helps children and their families realize that they can participate in sports although they have asthma.

“In addition, I was a presenter at this year’s Golden Goggles which is an awards show for USA Swimming.  It was great to see so many amazing swimmers like Michael Phelps, Cullen Jones, Ryan Lochte and Rebecca Soni awarded for their phenomenal performance at the world champions.  The event was very elegant taking place at the Beverly Hilton and bringing out many celebrities to honor the best swimmers the USA has.

“I recently got involved in fantasy basketball when a friend invited to me join a league.  It's an NBA league. My draft was tough but I have Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer, Carl Landry and Channing Frye. At first, I was feeling like I had no idea what I was doing but now I am getting the hang of it and loving it. I am constantly using the application on my iphone to change my team around and keep up with the stats.

“I'm in third place currently.  It's a lot of fun because I'm very competitive in everything and I really enjoy basketball.  I don't get to play anymore so this helps take the place of it."
