While she may have been named her hometown’s Sportswoman of the Year once again, Allyson Felix remains focused on her new training regimen as her season opener in April is now on the horizon.

“Hi Everyone,

“I've just found out that I've been chosen as the 2009 Los Angeles Sportswoman of the Year. I’ll be honored along with Sportsman of the Year Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers at the L.A. Sports Awards on 19 Feb. at L.A. Live.

“I was also chosen for the award in 2007. The award is presented by the Los Angeles Sports Council to the local athlete who exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship.

“I'm very proud and humbled.  This recognition means so much to me. I love Los Angeles and to be recognized by my city when there are so many phenomenal athletes here is an enormous honour.

“It’s been raining in Southern California for the past week. Our training group has definitely been affected by all the rain in Southern California.

“We are making sure to bring rain gear and braving the storms. We rarely have any bad weather so we can't really complain.  I'm feeling really strong this year due in part to my new weight lifting regimen, so I'm excited to see how it translates on the track this year.

“I've really been focused on training lately.  I've been spending time with family and friends as always just hanging out. I haven't made my schedule yet but I normally open my season with my teammates at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in April.

“It was a big football day of football last weekend with the AFC and NFC Championships.  I don't really have a favorite NFL team but I will be rooting for the Saints in the Super Bowl.  Reggie Bush has been a friend since our days at USC and I'd love to see him do well.

“That’s it for now. Thanks for all your support.”
