With less than a week to go to the US Trials, World 400m Hurdles champion Kerron Clement is anxious to compete and make sure he makes the team for the Beijing Olympic Games. Still he finds time to go to the movies and enjoy Sex and the City...

"Everything is going great training, racing, everything!

“I have been running some 400m flat races just to work on my speed because I saw last year how the 400m really helped my 400m Hurdles race.  I ran 45.10 at the adidas meet and I am pleased with that. And I also have a (world leading time) 47.79 400m Hurdles time.

“The races are helping my speed but of course we do hurdles drills in training. The main thing is I go 13 steps between hurdles all the way in practice. I have to be very confident in my strength. I simulate that in the meets.

“At the Prefontaine Classic it was very friendly in the 400m. I know all the guys in the race, Angelo Taylor,  Lashawn Merritt we are cool. So there is no pressure at all. We just go out there and have fun because we know the trials are coming up. You haven't got to kill yourself. You just go out and use it as a training opportunity.

“I am just ready to compete at the Olympic trials. I am very anxious to run actually.

“As I always say hard work always pays off and right now I am very strong. Everything I do I do for a reason and Bobby (Kersee) knows what he is doing. I don’t question what he does I just follow and I know that God will be there and everything will be o.k.

“I didn’t schedule any races this past weekend because I compete in the first weekend of the trials on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I am very anxious I am ready to run. My doctor told me be patient let it come to you and relax and you will run outstanding.

“My mom is still here in Los Angeles with me.  She will be with me at the trials. Of course she is still cooking all those Caribbean meals, helping me with my nutrition which is very important.

“When I am not training what I basically do is hang out with friends, go bowling or go to movies. In my free time I go to movie screenings. I have a connection.

“The Hulk is my favourite so far. I just love how he controls his anger. As far as track and field goes you have to control your anger and let the fire go when the gun goes off. I loved The Hulk movie

“I am a movie fanatic, I loved ‘Sex and The City’. Most guys won’t go to a movie like that or admit to watching that movie but I like it.

“Definitely I look past the trials. I stay positive, I say I am going to the Olympics and the trials are one step on the way to me achieving my goal which is the Olympics. I am scheduled to run in Rome and Paris and of course I am looking forward to those and I’m very excited for the trials as well. But the Olympics is my goal.”
