Olympic champion Stephanie Brown Trafton secures her first national title on her road to Berlin's World Championships...
I'm very excited to have my first National Title in the discus. It is somewhat strange for an Olympic Gold Medallist to have never been crowned the champion of their event in their own country.
This is a great achievement and it signals that there will be a new and fresh generation of discus elite to emerge in the coming years as well.
I worked very hard and was completely focused on winning a spot for the World Championships in Berlin.
Now that I have achieved my goals in the USA I will be able to move into my summer competition series with confidence and determination to win at the World Championships.
I have begun a new strength cycle as well as giving up desserts and sweets until the World Champs are complete.
After that I will be able to have two rewards, a World Championship medal and a piece of chocolate cake!"
