The New Year came and immediately I was back in Jamaica as my island home hosted its annual national sports awards. It was time well spent seeing family, friends and fellow athletes. We were feted by sponsors, and at an elaborate awards function track and field was the winner as both male and female honours went to our sport.

Although athletics is my career, I do enjoy other sports and as such, I took the opportunity to watch American football at both the collegiate and professional level. Despite not having a favourite team, I enjoyed every game I was able to watch and of course the Super Bowl was a very exciting game going down to the final seconds.

My sports watching was not confined to American football as I enjoy tennis as well and via replays I was able to get in a lot of the Australian Open. Li Na and Azarenka were great and so too was the men’s final.

The feeling is a bit weird not competing this indoor season, however I have been watching the performances. I think track and field fans will be getting a real treat this season from us, the athletes. My training has been going according to plan and I thank God for health and strength. I am looking forward to starting my outdoor season in March.

Thanks for reading,

VCB
