Olympic Refugee Team selected for Paris 2024 Games

Seven athletes will represent the Olympic Refugee Team in athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The squad includes distance runner Tachlowini Gabriyesos, who placed 16th in the marathon at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo – the highest ever finish by a refugee athlete at a global championships.

Other endurance athletes on the team include 800m specialists Perina Lokure Nakang and Musa Suliman, 5000m runner Jamal Abdelmaji Eisa Mohammed and middle-distance runner Farida Abaroge, who made her Athlete Refugee Team debut at the recent World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade.

Dorian Keletela, who in 2021 became the first sprinter to represent a refugee team at a global championships, will contest the 100m. And Mohammad Amin Alsalami, who last year became the first field event athlete to represent a refugee team at a global championships, has been named in the long jump.

“These athletes are an enrichment to our Olympic Community, and to our societies,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. "With their participation in the Olympic Games, they will demonstrate the human potential of resilience and excellence. This will send a message of hope to the more than 100 million displaced people around the world.”
