With the World Youth Championships taking place in Marrakech, the Moroccan Royal Athletic Federation intends to be represented by an important number of youth athletes. Several qualifying competitions will be held prior to the deadline for qualification and already 18 athletes (6 girls and 12 boys) have met the qualifying standards.

Two years ago in Sherbrooke, Morocco had a great start of the competition with Siham Hilali winning the 3000m, the opening event of the Championships which had been scheduled by the organizers as part of the opening ceremony.

Hilali defeated Kenya’s Pasalia Chepkorir Kipkoech 9:12.70 to 9:13.77 to clinch her country’s first and only gold of the Championships. Morocco had won a bronze medal in the inaugural edition of the IAAF World Youth Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland back in 1999.
