2007 Performance of the Year - And the Finalists are...

CarloFollowing the nominations of the candidates for the 2007 Performance of the Year (Man and Woman) awards, the jury of the International Athletic Foundation has determined three male and three female finalists for the prestigious award, which will be presented live on stage during the 2007 World Athletics Gala on Sunday 25 November.

The Finalists are:

Men

Asafa Powell (JAM)  
9.74/100m, Rieti, 9 September
A World record - set while easing off - and a full tenth quicker than any other man in 2007

Zersenay Tadese (ERI) 
35:50/12km XC, Mombasa, 24 March
To score the biggest upset of the year by dethroning Kenenisa Bekele at the World Cross Country Championships and winning by 23 seconds

Jeremy Wariner (USA) 
43.45/400m, Osaka, 31 August
To win the World title by more than half a second with a time bettered only by two men in history

Women

Yelena Isinbayeva (RUS) 
4.93i/Pole Vault, Donyetsk, 10 February
Her 20th World record and ultimately 5cm higher than any other woman in 2007

Janeth Jepkosgei (KEN) 
1:56.04/800m,Osaka, 28 August
To win the World title with the world's fastest time for four years, and by running from the front

Blanka Vlasic (CRO)  
2.07m/High Jump, Stockholm, 7 August
To equal to the third-highest jump ever outdoors
