MonteCarloWith the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2008 now taking a month long break surrounding the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, Beijing 2008, how does the qualification process currently stand in the season long battle to obtain entry to the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final?

Significantly, 55 individual medallists from last year’s 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan, are currently in qualifying position for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final which will be celebrated on the weekend of the 13-14 September 2008 in Stuttgart, Germany.

The Gottlieb Daimler Stadium, where the 4th IAAF World Championships in Athletics were contested in 1993, and which hosted the 2006 and 2007 World Athletics Finals, will also be the venue for the sixth edition of the Final in September.

With 19 World Athletics Tour meetings, and 28 Area Permit meetings (where points could also be scored for qualification) already completed in 2008, athletes who claimed a total of 55 medals - 20 gold, 15 silver and 20 bronze - in individual events in Osaka are currently in qualifying positions to compete in Stuttgart.
