On Thursday, 27 December 2001 the
Bahamas Association of Athletics
Associations held their second Golden
Awards Banquet. The event was held at
the Nassau Marriott and saw over five
hundred persons in attendance, nearly
double last year’s attendance.
It was a great evening with most of the athletes who attend colleges in the United States at home for the holidays. Each athlete and coach on every national team received some token during the Banquet. Many awards were presented. The winners are listed here:
Charley Major Award: Overall Athlete of 2001: Avard Moncur
Female Athlete of 2001: Debbie Ferguson
Male Athlete of 2001: Avard Moncur
Female Junior Athlete of 2001: Utica Edgecombe
Male Junior Athlete of 2001: Grafton Ifill III
Henry Crawford Award- Coach of the Year: Tyrone Burrows, coach of Tim Munnings and Carl Oliver, members of World Championships Silver Medal 1600m-relay team.
Roderick Simms Award- Official of the Year: Betty Christie
Person of the Year: Harrison Petty, Major Sponsor, and president of the Parent Association of Track and Field Athletes.
