Barsosio and Cheruiyot to head Kenyan women in short cross
14 March 2000 - With defending short cross champion Jackline Maranga sidelined with recurrent back problems, the Kenyan team will be fielding Sally Barsosio and Rose Cheruiyot in the senior women's short race to strengthen the national line-up.

The World Championships will signal the return to high level international competition of Sally Barsosio after a year's lay-off. Barsosio will line up in Vilamoura alongside Jane Ekimat and Margaret Ngotho in the senior women's team.

Speaking from the national team's training camp in Kigari, Embu, the national head coach Dan Muchoki said: "We have decided to take a tactical decision to strengthen the team in the absence of injured defending champion Jackline Maranga.

"We will still have a strong team in the long cross, led by Lydia Cheromei, Susan Chepkemei and Leah Malot, with Magdaline Chemjor, Irene Kwambai and Ruth Chepkoech filling the remaining positions.

"We are going to run as a team and I am extremely happy to note there no groupings. Kenyans will run as a team," concluded Muchoki.
