A big throw  for a new personal best in the second round of the Shot Put took Lithuania’s Viktoija Zemaityte to the head of the competition after three events in the women’s Heptathlon.

The Lithuanian’s 13.23 metre put was the longest of the competition and earned her 743 points, taking her three event total to 2645.

Great Britain’s Jessica Ennis is weaker on the Shot and produced a best mark of  10.52 for 564 points diluting somewhat her earlier promise and putting her back to second place with 2582.

Also a strong thrower South Africa’s Justine Robbeson put her shot out to 13.02 metres for 729 points and a running total of 2529 giving her third place.

The three leaders are followed closely by Germany’s Kathrin Geissler with 2513 after a disappointing performance in the shot (10.35) earned her 552 points.
