Gold MedallistTirunesh DIBABA ETH
"I can't believe it. These are my first World Championships and winning the title is an amazing thing for me. I was worried about the other runners in this race because I knew they were very strong, particularly the other Ethiopian (Berhane ADERE) but I turned out to be successful in this tough race so I'm really delighted.
"I am Derartu TULU's cousin and Derartu was so supportive of me before the race that I think she'll be very proud of me."
Silver Medallist - Marta DOMINGUEZ ESP
"Before the race I honestly thought Yingjie SUN would win.
"Coming out of the final curve I saw a small gap on the inside and went for it. When MASAI and TIRUNESH were next to me I told myself I do not want to be 4th, and I found a new gear somewhere and fought back to take silver.
"It has been a weak season for me, being on the podium here today is more than any dream I have had for months. I would like to thank my coach, my family and everybody who supported me."
Bronze Medallist - Edith MASAI KEN
"That was a good race. I was determined to win and go all the way, but obviously my sprint wasn't enough. I'm still satisfied because I got a medal.
"I don't believe there is a reason why the Kenyan team is not living up to expectations here. I think it's just individuals copmeting.
"As for myself, I trained hard, all the way from last year, just for these championships."
