Irish team for Athens

The Olympic Council of Ireland have named a 13 strong team for this August’s  Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The team is led by reigning Olympic 5000m silver medallist Sonia O'Sullivan and reigning World Championship 20km Walk silver medallist Gillian O'Sullivan.

Of the team, Derval O'Rourke (4th European U-23 100mH 2003), Cathal Lombard (Irish record holder over 10,000m), Alistair Cragg (Multi US Collegiate champion and Irish Indoor record holder) and 20 year old High Jumper Adrian O'Dwyer (2.30m this season) are making their Olympic debuts.

The Olympic Council have not yet closed the door to Peter Coghlan (13.63 SB for 110mH), Gary Ryan (20.78 200m SB), three time Olympian Nicky Sweeney who threw 64.12 for the Discus on Sunday and Gareth Turnbull who ran 3.36.60 over 1500m in 2003.

The 132nd Irish T&F Championships will take place on July 24/25th in Dublin.
