Jolanda Ceplak runs 1:57.63 for World lead and national record
26 May 2002 - Lisbon - Slovenia’s Jolanda Ceplak the women’s World 800m indoor record holder, ran a magnificent Slovenian record of 1:57.63, the world’s leading time so far this summer, at the European Champion Club’s Cup in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday.

Ceplak who became World indoor record holder when dramatically beating Austria's Stephanie Graf to win the 800m gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in March, was a runaway winner in Lisbon from a field which included Czech Helena Fuchsova (4th). Spain’s Mayte Martinez was second in 2:00.09.

On Saturday the meeting also produced a number of other World-class performances:

Spain’s Glory Alozie, the reigning Olympic 100m hurdles silver medalist took the flat 100m in 11.14, while Russia’s Anna Pyatykh leapt 14.47 in the women’s triple jump, and Ellina Zvereva of Belarus the Olympic discus champion, threw 64.49m.

In the men’s events, the highlights were a 400m flat/hurdles double by Britain’s Chris Rawlinson (49.98/46.03), and a 8.35m (+5.4w) long jump by Russia's Danil Burkenya.
