There was a championships best run from Meb Keflezighi when retaining his USA 8K road running title in New York on Saturday (27 March).

Keflezighi, already chosen to run the marathon for his country at the Olympic Games, struck 10 seconds off the previous Championship's best with a superb performance of 22:16 in Central Park.

Already holder of the fastest US times for 10K and 20K, his 8km run was also the fourth fastest-ever time by an American as he easily thwarted the ambitions of runner-up Anthony Famiglietti and third placer Bolota Asmerom.

Keflezighi, said: " did not see the time. I was not aware that I was under the course record until I could see the finish line clock."

Praising his opponents, Keflezighi, said: "These guys made me run that record today. These guys made me earn that record today."
