Kiplagat and Kibet lead the fields for Lagos Half Marathon

Olympic, World and continental champions are on the slate for Saturday’s (21) 7th running of the GLO Lagos International Half Marathon.

The women’s field features four-time World champion Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands taking the favourite’s role, but she’ll face a strong challenge from her   countrywoman and cousin Hilda Kibet, the European Cross Country Champion, along with a group of other top runners from Ethiopia and Kenya.

In the men’s race the contest features World Marathon Champion Luke Kibet from Kenya, Ethiopia’s Olympic Marathon bronze medallist Tsegaye Kebede, and defending Lagos champion Dieudonne Disi of Rwanda. The field also includes Hendrick Ramaala of South Africa and an additional group of top runners from Ethiopia and Kenya who are capable of producing upsets. Leading West African runners have also been invited.

In its second year with current sponsor Globacom, the race offers a total prize purse of USD $210,000.
