Oleg Kulkov from Russia and Tadelesh Birra from Ethiopia took the honours at the sixth edition of the Zürich Marathon on Sunday (20).

Kulkov crossed the finish line in 2:11:50 beating Kenyans Edwin Kibowen (2:11:50) and 2005 Zürich Marathon winner Stanley Leleito (2:13:40).

Birra won in 2:32:08 ahead of Poland’s Karolina Jarzynska (2:33:15) and Prisca Kiprono (2:34:15).

The Zürich International race incorporated the Swiss Marathon championships. In the absence of last year’s World Marathon bronze medallist and 2007 Zürich winner Viktor Röthlin, who won the Tokyo Marathon in February in an outstanding 2:07:33, the men’s title went to Tarcis Ancay in 2:22:32. Maja Neuenschander took the women’s swiss title in 2:40:41.

About 4780 entries took part in the Zürich Marathon held in good weather conditions.
