Men’s 4x400m relay

Poland and Japan showed that, despite having no outstanding individual 400m runners, they have relay teams capable of striking gold in tomorrow’s finals when they finished first and second in heat 1 – 3:04.25 to 3:05.90 (an Asian record). The USA and Jamaica – the two other strong contenders – qualified in the next heat automatically with 3:08.41 and 3:08.90. Great Britain, lacking their usual top runners, slipped in as fastest losers with 3:06.34– although it was still a national record and France qualified as the final qualifier with 3:09.30.
