| "In the beginning I was confident that the group would catch the Moroccan. Kilometre after kilometre I felt better and better. As I was running with Anton (SPA) and Biwott (KEN). I talked with Anton and we both saw the Kenyan had problems and so we made a little push to break him. At the next water station, Anton did not get water but I did. However, the few feet advantage that Anton gained here was too great for me to close and so I concentrated on the silver medal. I tried to save my energy to reach the silver position." |

only of the gold. I wanted to return Japan to the top of the marathon world. I ran an
aggressive race from the start and so did everything I could to win and so I can only be
