Paula Radcliffe named in Queen Elizabeth II's birthday honours list.
15 June 2002 - Radcliffe, who won this year's London Marathon in her debut at the Distance was awarded an MBE – Member of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of her sporting achievements - in this year's "Queen's Birthday Honours List".

The List, which is drawn up by the British Government and approved by the Sovereign, recognises people from all walks of life who have made outstanding achievements or major social or political contributions in the United Kingdom.

Radcliffe's time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 55 seconds in the London Marathon was the second fastest in women's marathon history and the fastest ever debut performance by a woman.

Radcliffe is also the two-time defending half-marathon and world cross-country champion and competed at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics in the 10,000 metres.
