Asafa Powell and ShellyAnn Fraser were 200m winners at Jamaica’s Championships, which ended at the National Stadium on Sunday (27).

Powell ran 19.97 for his second 200m title while Fraser, the Olympic and World 100m champion, won her first, which came in 22.43.

Powell, who ran a very careful curve, said the aim was just to deliver a good race.

“I came out her to run a good race, but I was cautious on the curve and then run the straight because I am still having a little problem with my toes,” Powell said.

Well back, Lanceford Spence with 20.63 and Rasheed Dyer (20.65) were second and third respectively.

Fraser, who was more aggressive on the curve, said the run was a very good one.

“I think 22.40 to start the season is very good. I am very happy with the time,” Fraser said. “It’s always a warm feeling to win in front of your home crowd.”

Anneisha McLaughlin, a World Championships finalist, took second in 22.98, a season’s best, while Samantha Henry was third in 22.33.

In the 100m rookie Oshane Bailey pulled off a shocker when he crossed the line in 10.14 ahead of Michael Frater 10.16. Sherone Simpson, on Saturday's opening day, won the women's 100m in 11.12, ahead of Carrie Russell (11.18).

Novlene Williams-Mills took the women’s 400m in 50.51 ahead of Shericka Williams (51.12) and Kaliese Spencer 51.24. Oral Thompson was the men’s winner in 45.79, beating Ricardo Chambers 45.87 and Allodin Fothergill 45.91.

In the 400m Hurdles, Nickeisha Wilson and Leford Green were the winners. Wilson ran 57.09 to beat Nikita Tracey (58.24) while Green took the men's event in 48.90 to beat Roxroy Cato 50.53.

Jovanne Jarrett took the women's Long Jump with a leap of 6.44m. Nickeva Wilson was second with 6.03m marginally ahead of Annmarie Duffus who was third with a 6.00m best.

Indira Spence took the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.05 ahead of Andrea Bliss 13.17. Toni-Ann Doyley was third in 13.30. Dorian Scott took the men's Shot Put with a 20.55m throw and Roman Cooper with 7.39m took the men's Long Jump with a 7.39m leap.
