The Women's Race on May 23 is expected to attract a record 20,000-strong field of athletes.

Growing in stature each year since 8000 took part in 2001, the 10-kilometre race is designed to increase the awareness of women in their fight for equality in the African state, especially in sport.

The race has the backing of the International Athletics Foundation and is organized by former Olympic champion Nawal El Moutawakel, also an IAAF Council member.

Special guests in recent years at the event have included Olympic 400m and 400m Hurdles gold medallists Michael Johnson and Ed Moses.
