Men's 60 Hurdles Final

The year's leader, Terrence Trammell of the US, had to dig out of a hole created by a slow start. His 0.268 reaction time caused him to be almost invisible in the early stages of the five-hurdle race.

By the third hurdle, Trammell found himself leading and starting to pull away. In the end, his 7.51 win looked much easier than the manner in which it started.

Sydney champion Anier Garcia was the leader of a four-man derby--all running in even-numbered lanes--behind Trammell. The Cuban, a former world champion from 1997, held on to collect his second consecutive silver medal in world indoor competition, with a time of 7.54.

Shaun Bownes of South Africa capped off the most successful indoor season of his career with a bronze medal performance in 7.55.

Likewise, the next man across the line, Robert Kronberg in 7.57, can look back on his Lisbon weekend with satisfaction despite being deprived of a medal. The Sydney finalist accomplished a significant lowering of his Swedish national record from 7.59 to 7.54 earlier in the day.
