Three 2:06 runners added to Rotterdam Marathon field

Rotterdam, The NetherlandsThree 2:06 runners have been added to the starting field of the 28th edition of the Fortis Rotterdam Marathon which will be held on Sunday 13 April 2008.

The event is an IAAF Silver Label Road Race.

The additional runners are three Kenyans, Robert Cheboror, William Kipsang and Joseph Riri who have personal bests sub 2:07:00.

The 29-year-old Cheboror won the 2004 Amsterdam Marathon in a personal best of 2:06:23, and is the fastest of the trio.

William Kipsang, 30, won the Amsterdam race in 2003 in a personal best time of 2:06:39, and last year finished third in Rotterdam in a marathon which was held under extreme warm conditions. He then clocked a time of 2:11:04.

In preparation for Rotterdam, Cheboror and Kipsang will run the 34th Fortis City-Pier-City Half Marathon on Saturday 15 March in The Hague. Cheboror has a personal best of 1:01:42 for the distance, while Kipsang’s fastest time for the Half Marathon is 1:00:25. With that time he finished third last year in The Hague where his compatriot Samuel Kamau Wanjiru set the World record of 58:33.

The third runner to be added to the Rotterdam start list is Joseph Riri has a personal best of 2:06:49. With that time he finished second in the Berlin Marathon of 2004.

- two former winners of the Fortis Rotterdam marathon, Jimmy Muindi and Joshua Chelanga. Muindi won the race in 2005 in 2:07:50. Chelanga is last year winner in 2:08:21.
