There were five automatic qualifiers in Group A and two in Group B in this morning’s qualification rounds for the women’s hammer throw final, which will take place on Saturday evening.

The contest on Saturday will be keen as all of the automatic qualifiers were within one metre of each other.

The leading qualifier was Spain’s Berta Castells, with her second round throw of 60.45 metres, following a foul in the first round.

Behind Castells followed Russia’s Yuliya Rozenfeld with a new personal best of 59.66 metres from her second effort after a first attempt of 56.73. The other qualifier in Group A was Croatia’s Ivana Brkljacic, who threw the implement 59.63 metres with her first attempt.
