Women Heptathlon Event 2High Jump

Carolin Kluft of Sweden continued her crushing domination of the women’s heptalon series in this second event, as she continued long after the other competitors had fallen by the wayside.

The Defending World Junior Champion, Kluft  had a completely clear series through to 1.86 metres, before attempting 1.89, where she had a first failure before clearing this height too. Not content with the mark, despite her obvious elation, Kluft asked for the bar to be raised to 1.92, a new Swedish national junior record. Once again she failed at her first attempt before sailing over the bar at her second attempt and deciding to call it a day.

The jump also gave Kluft the second best height in the world this year for a junior and 1132 points, taking her total after the first two events to 2178 points.

The closest challenger for the title after this second event is Jennifer Oeser (GER), who picked up 978 points with her clearance of 1.80 metres (also matched by Australia’s Lauren Foote, who now lies in 7th place overall with 1830 points) to bring her total to 1910 points.

France’s Amandine Constantin was not quite so good at the high jump and managed 1.74 metres for 903 points, putting her third in the table to date with 1870 points from the two events, where she is closely tailed by Olga Alekseyeva of Kazakhstan with 1866 points, Jamaica’s Nadine Marsh with 1840, Olga Levenkova 1834 and Foote.

The competition continues this evening with the shot put and the 200 metres.
