Women High Jump Final
With 2 gold medals from the men’s Shot Put and the women’s Hammer Throw, Croatia did not to have to wait long to see that total pushed up to three as Blanka Vlasic added her ounce of gold from the women’s high jump.
Valsic had already won the event with her successful second attempt clearance of 1.89 metres, after a clear series to that height, with the two remaining contenders at that stage, Poland’s Anna Ksok and Australian Petrina Price both falling by the wayside at that height with three unsuccessful attempts and waking, respectively 2nd and third places with 1.87 metres on countback.
Vlasic then asked the bar to be raised to 1.96 metres and was again successful with her second attempt, establishing the world leading junior mark with that height.
Aiming for a new Championships record, the bar was raised to 2.00 metres, but this was a step too far and Vlasic bowed out with three failures at the height.
