Women Shot Put Final

Limin Jiang claimed Chin's second gold medal of these championships, when trailing after four rounds to the Pole,  Magdelena Sobieszek, Jiang produced the best shot put of the year, 15.60 metres.

Sobieszek, whose 15.42 in round two was a lifetime best, had to be content with the silver, just ahead of Marli Knoetze, from South Africa, whose 15.10 gave her the bronze.

In difficult conditions for the women, with rain midway through the competition making the shot circle slick and slippery, it was a tribute to the competitors that five of them managed 15-metre throws or better, with Irina Tarasova, from Russia (15.04) and Jin-sun Kim, of Korea (sixth with 14.71) even producing their best ever throws.
