Women Triple Jump Qualifying

Women's triple jump favorite Ashia Hansen gave U.K. fans plenty to cheer about in the qualifying round as she quickly soared to the best distance of the day, 14.61.

Unfortunately, the effort apparently had its price, as she said, "I am running off to the doctor to get my physio. I was a little scared and definitely in pain, but I am happy not to have limped off the track. I do not know if I will be world champion this weekend."

Behind Hansen, four others reached the automatic qualifying distance of 14.20, with new national records going to Baya Rahouli of Algeria and Kéné Ndoye of Senegal.

Reigning champ Tereza Marinova (Bulgaria) was one of three jumpers at 14.09, but she lost out on a spot in the finals after the tie-breaking rules were applied.
