18 October 2000 – On a day when two other teenaged "veterans" of the Sydney Olympics won world junior titles, Veronica Campbell, from Jamaica, added to her Olympic relay silver when she took the women's 100m title here on Wednesday.

A two-metre per second tailwind helped her to the fourth championship best of the second day of the championships, 11.12sec, with Germany's Katchi Habel taking silver in 11.39. Bronze went to Fana Ashby of Trinidad in 11.47.

Campbell’s run was as powerful as it was dominant, and the young girl from just outside Kingston – the hosts of the next World Juniors in 2002 – took victory by a record winning margin for these championships, in an event so often decided by mere hundredths of a second.
