Women's Long Jump

FacebookTwitterEmail

It took the World and Olympic champion Tatyana Lebedeva to bring this Long Jump competition into some form of life in the third round with a 6.78m leap. But once the event breathed its first, all life drained away again.

The Russian, supporting a lurid red hair do, was the only really bright spot of this four round event which was concluded in 50 minutes.

USA’s Grace Upshaw, who had led until the third round with 6.60m, improved to 6.64 with her last round effort but that was largely the end, with Russia’s Oksana Udmurtova securing third (6.52m).

Can Lebedeva ever have won an easier US$30,000?!

"I am quite happy despite the fact that I definitely wanted to jump further," said Lebedeva. "Today I had fun."

"I have problems with my Achilles. In the autumn I will stay at home and take some rest."
