Irisdaymi Herrera of Cuba leapt a PB 6.41m to win Cuba's third gold medal of the World Junior Championships tonight in the Long Jump.

Herrera's winning jump came in the fifth round, but the contest was already won. She took the lead in the second round with a 6.30m attempt, which would also have been good enough to win. Chantel Malone of the British Virgin Islands moved into second in the same round with a 6.17m mark.

Malone saw herself bumped out of medal contention in the fourth round, however, as first Ukraine's Marharyta Tverdohlib at 6.20m and then China's Wupin Wang surpassed her with marks of 6.20m and 6.21m respectively.

Wang improved to 6.23m in the final round, but it was not enough to challenge Herrera, who had improved to her winning 6.41m mark in the fifth round, the distance which would stand as the winner.
