After becoming the first junior athlete to legally break the 10-second barrier with his 9.97 winning time at the 2014 NCAA Championships, a world junior record pending ratification, Trayvon Bromell wants to also leave his mark on the IAAF World Junior Championships.
It has been 10 years since a US sprinter won the men's 100m global junior title and it would be even more special competing at home and on the same track where he achieved his previous record.
Perhaps even a reduction of his world junior record might even be possible on the famously fast Hayward Field track, but it has also been a long season for the University of Baylor student.
Japan’s Asian junior record-holder Yoshihide Kiryu, who has run 10.05 this year and unofficially equalled the former world junior record with 10.01 last summer, Anguilla’s Zharnel Hughes (10.12) and Jamaica’s Jevaughn Minzie (10.16) are also top candidates for the podium.
