China’s Biwei Gu enjoyed an almost flawless performance in taking gold with a best height of 1.87m.

Gu, 17, had just one failure, at 1.82m, before clearing the winning height.

The podium places went to the form book based on season’s bests as Australia’s Sophia Begg took silver and Kazakhstan’s Yekaterina Yevseyeva was third, both clearing 1.85m.

When the competition was over, Gu, who entered the competition with 1.70m, had three failed attempts to add two centimetres to her personal best with 1.90m.
