USA’s Christian Cantwell completed an amazing season taking the IAAF / VTB Bank Continental title here in Split as any of his four legal throws would have won him the 30,000$ cheque tonight.

The World Indoor champion, US champion and Diamond League winner, Cantwell had a perfect series of four 21 metres plus throws, his best tonight coming the second time of asking with 21.87.

The only other 21 metre man on the night was Polish Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski who secured 7 precious points for Team Europe. Majewski held second position from the word go as he opened with 20.73 and then improved with his next two rounds respectively to 20.87 and 21.22.

In a competition where standings were virtually all decided after round 1, European champion Andrei Mikhnevich had to be content with third tonight as he proved unable to improve on his opening 20.68.

Australia’s Scott Martin was the only other man to reach 20 metres with his very last effort at 20.10m as there was major disappointment from Canada’s Dylan Armstrong whose best tonight was a meagre 19.70m in fifth.
