13 September 2003Russia’s double World champion Tatyana Lebedeva won with a 15.13m effort, the final part of a triple 15 metre jumping salvo which knocked the stuffing out of this season’s two other 15 metre performers, Cuba’s Yamile Aldama and Cameroon’s Francoise Mbango Etone.

Lebedeva took the event immediately by the throat with 14.71m in round one which was the best of that series, and when during the second round she was headed momentarily first by Mbango’s 14.83m and then Aldama’s 14.90m effort, she took the competition into another realm with a 15.01m leap in response.

15.04m followed with the Russian’s third effort and then her 15.13m jump further emphasised her hold over the opposition.

Aldama had done her best to respond to Lebedeva with a third round 14.99m, a distance which she repeated identically with her final jump too.

A simple competition to watch, in which the double World champion proved she was ‘simply the best’.
