WOMEN'S 100m. QUARTERFINAL
American Marion Jones ratified that she is one of the favourites to win the 100 meters, by taking home the fourth heat of the quarterfinals, clocking 10.76 (wind +0.3), a new championship record, and a world season's best. Three more athletes clocked inside 11 seconds. Ekaterini Thanou won the first heat and bettered the Greek record with 10.86, the same time than American Inger Miller, who was first in the second heat. The silver medallist in Athens'97, Zhanna Tarnopolskaya-Pintusevich followed Miller with 10.94, while the French Christine Arron won the remaining race in 11.00. Former European record holder Irina Privalova (RUS) did not start her heat.
