IAAF NATIONAL MEMBER FEDERATIONS
An IAAF National Member Federation is a national governing body for athletics (track & field) affiliated to the IAAF. Only one Member from each country or territory may be affiliated to the IAAF and must abide by the rules and regulations of the IAAF.
The number of affiliated federations grew dramatically, from 17 founding Members in 1912 to 213 in 2008, and back to 212 in 2010 when the Netherlands Antilles federation ceased to exist independently. At present, the total number of countries and territories affiliated to the IAAF stands at 212 - placing the IAAF among the world’s largest sporting organisations, with more members than the United Nations.
